310 RL - Is the MORyde independent suspension worth doing?

I very recently purchased a 310 RL (two weeks ago). We are full-timers and do a lot of traveling. As most already know, the roads out there can be brutal and they took a toll on our previous 5th wheel. I want to make this one last and am wondering if the cost of retrofitting to the MORyde independent suspension system is worth it. We would have to travel to Elkhart, IN to get this done so there is that cost as well. Then there is the decision whether to spend the $2K+ to upgrade to disc brakes as well. Hoping some Allies have some experience at this.

We currently have a 310RL, and if we were full timing in it, we would definitely spend the $ for the IS and the disc brakes upgrades. No doubt in my mind.

Not sure if this helps you or not.

Good luck and have fun!

it really gets down to money. do you have the money? we have always gotten the I/S on our trailers. And one thing to remember is that it does not add much value (if any) should you sell your trailer down the road.

Money is always a factor but I am hoping this is my last RV and that it will last me until I can no longer do this full-time travel thing so resale is not really somehing I am worried about. I am 70 so hoping that won't be until I am 80 but you never know. I just want the RV to last and not get beaten up like my previous one that I only had for 5 years. Probably could have gotten another couple years but there was separation happening between the outer wall on the door side of the RV and the inner aluminum frame that I think came from the rough roads.

While be it expensive the difference is remarkable. I have approx 600 miles on mine. Coming around the bottom of Chicago on the way home from Morryde was an unbelievable difference. The interstate there is BRUTAL. I have also since the install done the back roads that we frequent as well as brutal railroad tracks and I can say with conviction the improvements are remarkable. I also like the fact that the suspension is adjustable for Caster, Camber and Tow in or out. Should help with tire wear. That said it is something you need to have checked periodically where as the old system had no adjustment (I always had one tire wear “funny”). We “plan” on keeping this rig for ten more years so to me it’s worth it not to deal with the shackles and broken leaf springs etc…….

if you have the money do the disc brakes and IS system. I think you are low on the price of having disc brakes installed.

I'd go ahead and schedule an appt. to have both systems installed....there is a waiting list......you can always change it or cancel it when the time comes.

I can say disc brakes are a worthwhile investment with or without Mor Ryde.
If you full time Mor Ryde may also be worthwhile.
For me as a weekend camper I don't see the need. I never had any major suspension issue in 20 years of camping.
I also have a BD3 air hitch that smooth things out. I can accidently leave things out on the counters and they will still be there when I arrive.
I consider Mor Ryde and dual panes in the same category as nice to have options but not really necessary.
Financially they do not pay for themselves The value you get from the must be is only recognized by the owner of the RV. Others will not appreciate or value their improvement

Do you know if the suspension increased the overall height of the rig? I've heard it adds up to 2".

Regarding disc brakes- LOVE them!
We had our 310RL upgraded to disc brakes at the rally this year. Total was around $4,200. Huge difference in stopping power. Easier to modulate the application. I'm glad we did it.

I have seen a video or 2 of them installing IS on fifth wheels. I believe they "can" add height to "level" the fifth wheel to your truck.

Good luck and have fun!

Yep 2” taller on my 340. Went from 13’4” to 13’6”

Did you notice if the truck rode better as well?
I have not pulled the string yet on a 5th wheel RV, I have a Duramax Dual wheel long box, the truck itself is rated beyond the 310RL and I am worried about the ride as well. I think I want the GenY Gooseneck for the hitch too? Thanks!

Yes it did ride better for sure. The gen Y is just about broke in (1k miles). I’ll keep ya posted . Comes out of storage in a month

I doing research on suspension upgrades I ran across some that say the independent suspensions don't equalize the weight from one axle to the other and that, that harms the overloaded axle. Has anyone with the independent systems seen any repercussions from this?
Another question that I have is, is there much concern of the cost of adjustments to the independent suspension from rough roads or do they respond fairly well to hitting the potholes, etc?
Sorry for all the questions!

Personally, I would consider the slipper spring set up as a lower cost, yet effective improvement over the factory set up. I owned centerpoint air in the past and it worked to smooth the shocks but I am not sold on the true independent at the cost. No doubt it rides nicer, but $$$$$ nicer, nah. But, it is up to you and you wallet.

We just had the IS installed on our 385 in mid March. Upgraded to 8K. 100% recommend the upgrade!!! We did a drive test with our MORryde rep over 3 sets of railroad tracks, he said, and I quote, "Drive over the tracks at 15mph, don't slow down" we're like, REALLY?!?!? We did, the truck went bumpity bump as expected, the trailer, nadda, nothing, no jerk, no bump no shake, zip, absolutely nothing! We also got their Pin Box as a free upgrade for scheduling the install during the winter months. The tow home was a dream, no bumps on expansion joints, pot holes, nothing.

On the height, we were a bit nose high, by 1.5" (not much really) 13' 3" front, 13' 1.5" rear to after install 1/2 high in the back, 13' 3.5" front, 13' 4" in the back. So net net we went from 13' 3" to 13' 4"

They did install the 2" plumbing riser kit. I had removed the dual outlet sewer lines (one in front, and one in back of the wheels) prior to the upgrade and am installing a single line exiting to the rear. Also installing electric valve gates.
