Thanks to your post, and beautiful weather today I was inspired by your post and documentation to remove our island and base. My intention was to see what I could do to address my collapse duct work from above. Once removed, I was able to enlarge the floor cut out by about an inch which makes it match the metal plentum much better. I was also able to reach inside the hole and get the end of the duct work re-expanded and then secured in the open position via screws down thru the floor into the duct work pulling it up tight to the underside of the floor.

The duct is L shaped so fortunately my collapse was in the leg of the L. A few well placed screws with the confines of the island base footprint are now holding it open and no screws are visible.

I also found some self expanding weather stripping at Lowes and used it to make a gasket around the plentum box. This now provides a positive seal between the plentum and the floor.

Airflow is much improved!

Now all I need to do is track down the necessary ASB fittings to reassemble the kitchen sink drain.

It is a nice day and today is cut flooring day. I let the linoleum heat up in the sun and taped the old over the new. My plan for placing the Island back in it's place, I did not think that through. I am going to cut the area outlined in red. I will then orient it on the slide and I should be close enough. I may try and find the original holes in 2 corners as well. I cut linoleum with a 1/8" board under it and a straight edge to make sure I don't go wild in the wrong direction.

Flooring went down easy and in less than 15 minutes of adjustment time. I had about 1.5 hours and it was stapled down. Now begins the process of putting everything back in place. I did not glue it down. There are so many items screwing into it in places, the floor is going no where. If I mess up my floor next time, it should go faster...LOL!!

Flooring up date: It pains me to admit, but my plan of just floating that linoleum didn't work. I had more waves than the Atlantic ocean when I went to start putting things back together this morning. I think temperature swings are the culprit.

I have removed all my staples and calling in a 2 man team from my flooring guy (I showed him the job 2 months ago). Gluing it is a 2 man job, for sure. One handling the roll and the other gluing. There was glue around the edges when Alliance installed it, so shame on me for not doing what they did. Let my mistakes, be a lesson to all who come after my attempts! Some jobs require two people as much as I resist the notion......

Personally, I am very sorry that your efforts haven’t worked out to your satisfaction.
It is a hard pill to swallow when you invest all of the time and effort in a project and you are less than satisfied with the results.

Thank you for your inspiration and transparency regarding the island removal and I hope that your flooring team can get the ball over the goal line for you .

Thanks...this is a case where taking the short cut, was not the solution. Glad I had a plan B...Plan C is hiring a mafia guy I know..LOL!! Did I just type that?
