Replacing current Jensen system?

How do you access the speakers above the fireplace, or remove the fireplace to access the speakers. I want to replace the speakers along with the Jensen mess.

If I recall correctly, I think I saw the back of those speakers when I had my fireplace drawer out once. Remove your fireplace drawer (see details in your other post) and look up. I'm not sure how the speakers are attached but it will likely be evident upon visual inspection. The Jensen likely has a front cover / trim that pries off revealing screws that hold it in - but that's just a guess.

I just replaced the stock speakers with a pair of Klipsch R-50M bookshelf speakers. As stated by Jim Beletti, the speakers are accessed by removing the fireplace drawer. I removed the old speakers and the stock mounting plate with grill cloth, added an extension to the shelf to mount the speakers on, which put them at the right height to align with the opening in the front. The grill cloth fits just about perfectly into the opening. I also added a hanger bracket to take the weight in the back. See photos.
Now I need to replace the inferior Jensen head unit with something that has an optical audio input so I can route the TV through the new speakers...

I finally got a chance to finish the project and replaced the Jensen unit with a Denon A/V receiver. Now we have really good sound from the TV and for streaming music. Let the good times roll...
