New Exact Slide kit

I would counter that Vroom is probably the best proven option at this point. The last generation of BAL cable slides required constant repairs at best.
The new generation seems to have started were the old generation left off with an immediate retrofit required on brand new units.
Vroom replacements for Schwintek slides seem to be the solution, although very pricey.
The idea to install slide outs on RV's that cannot have through frame mechanisms is novel. Unfortunately the mechanics of the idea are still a work in progress.
You are probably correct. I forgot about them because they would not install them on the too long side of our Winnebago. BAL would definitely not have worked there.
The next production year W switched to through frame for that slide.
I don’t know of any mfg using Vroom though.

When mine failed I contacted Vroom regarding my 25 340RL.

Hi There,

I believe it was your product that another 340RL owner had installed on his Alliance 340RL to replace the Bal Cable slide on the bedroom. However, he was having it installed on-site in a campground in Tennessee. Anyhow, my question is will this work on a 2025 Alliance 340RL with the Bal cable slide system, and can I have it installed in Florida?

Thank you very much!!

Mike

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately, we only upgrade systems that currently have a Schwintek or SlimRack slide system. We are unable to assist with your specific cable slide replacement at this time.

Best regards,

Brian Vroom

Now this just pisses me off, I am sure oem’s screamed about not getting their cut, or markup. $100 bucks more? Never ends. RV manufacturing industry needs to be investigated for running a monopoly and broken up. Anybody have any idea on number of cycles before failure? Are these only covered under the 1 year warranty? I really miss my all hydraulic slides on my old unit.
I would estimate that we had about 40 cycles before our slide failed. Our street side LR slide is making the same binding noises as the failed slide did, so I am thinking its going to fail as well. It likely has about 30 cycles on it, certainly fewer than the curb side.

We had 36 documented cycles (per our travel journal) when ours failed.

Not sure how many cycles mine is at!

You also think that if Bal, knew there was a problem with the product, that they would issue a recall, and provide, the replacement free of change. And include labor.

I work with OEM's on a daily basis, and warranty, we all have problems with products.

Right thing to do is provide the parts, cover the labor.

That's Customer Service!!!!!

Hey everyone,
I actually joined this forum for this discussion specifically. We have a 2024 XLR Boost (Forest River) fifth wheel that has had nothing but issues with the LR slide since we bought it. Hope you don't mind me jumping in.

Has anyone replaced their Exact Slide motors with this new kit and been running it for a while, or at least a few months since they've released it?

I ordered our kit a few months ago, along with a controller that FR opted to skip when building our trailer (that's another story) and an interior lower cable that needed replacement. After installing the controller and adjusting the cables to their proper tensions, our slide was working beautifully. Until yesterday, as we were preparing for a trip that we leave for today. The RH motor has started making the notorious grinding/skipping sound that our multiple previous motors have made (gears are stripping), which were fortunately replaced under warranty.

We're gonna send it this weekend and hope we can assist the right side in and out for our weekend trip. Then I'll be installing the new motors in the next week or so. Hoping this will be the end of our issues, at least past the dozen or so cycles we've been averaging.

I had ours installed about 6 weeks ago. The only way I can help is by sharing that my tech said he’s done multiple replacements per week (we live near a bunch of RV destinations). I asked if he’s had any callbacks and it was a confident no. I think those are the kind of data points you’re looking for. Hope it helps.

That is confidence inspiring, thank you. We managed to assist the RH side out and back in this weekend, cringing the entire time. But, all in all a successful trip.

I'll be installing the new motors this weekend and am hoping this is the last of our issues for a while.

For anyone else with the Exact Slide system, BAL (Norco Industries) does have a great YouTube channel (same one OP linked in his first post) with a lot of helpful videos. They have a four part training series on the Exact Slide system that I highly recommend watching. They even provide the certification test, if you're so inclined. If you are fairly mechanically inclined, the system is really fairly simple and the videos cover all of the usual issues (popping noises, cable replacements, motor replacements, etc.).

This is part one of the training series:

That video is awesome!!!! I haven’t. Looked at it yet but have bookmarked it!

@BryanValRox did his with the legacy motors and it’s on here someplace. I don’t recall the exact amount of time it took to have our tech do the job but it was about 5.5 or 6 hours.
