Inverter connect.

Got our new 29RL yesterday and doing the inverter connect today. Question is where do these wires connect to or end at? One clearly is hot all the time (ie shore power) and the other seems to feed the microwave.. neither seem to go to the 30A inverter breaker.. so what's the point of these wires, and how do I feed the inverter breaker from the front access hole.

Thanks! 7AC Mike

I am having a hard time wrapping my head around this. Where is the grey conduit coming from?

Not sure how they could hardwire 120v power from shore, directly to your microwave, without going through the distribution panel first.

The looks like a simple junction box, not something an aftermarket inverter would get wired into.

Typically you will find the shore power from the wall connector, directly to the distribution panel...that is more than likely behind the pass-through wall, not in the front compartment (where battery is)

We are a bit baffled by this also. After getting into the panel we found several other issues such as breakers incorrectly labeled and a couple of circuits doing nothing. Long story short we have it figured out with some rewiring/relabeling. My son is an electrical engineer and to say the least he was under impressed! On a good note on our PDI yesterday only found 5 issues that required the dealer to handle (which they did quickly). Small Floor slice, blowing a fuse on the lights in slide when it was moved in or out. Had 2 side markers that the screws were tight on the wires and the lockout on the Rota Flex hitch will not fit. Will make one when I get home. Thanks for the quick response though. 7acmike

7AC Mike,
I'm wondering if you could elaborate on what you found out about the wires in the inverter prep junction box. Did either end up connecting to the inverter breaker in the panel? I'm wiring in an inverter in my 29RL and I could use any help you can provide. Thanks.

Hello,
I can only share my experience with my 2024 Avenue 32rls "Inverter prep". In my case I had Two 12/2 Romex cables in my forward bay electrical box, like yours, spliced together with Gray wirenuts being held with Electrcal tape.
One Romex comes from the 20 amp breaker in my RV Power Center marked Inverter and lands in a distubution box, 4 square, 1900 deep, 4×4, box what ever you want to call it with a blank cover, from that distubution box, that is mounted in the void behind the RV Power Center under the coffee bar, Two Romex cables are run thru the underbelly to my forward bay to the "box" like your picture. A short piece of Liquidtight/Sealtight about 3 feet long is used to protect the two Romex as it feeds from the metal hole in the rear wall of my bay.
Specific Wiring in forward Bay to distubution box.
The Two Romex (One + Two) cables run from the distubution box thru the underbelly to the foward bay box. One Romex (Romex One) is spliced directly in the distubution box to the breaker marked Inverter in the RV Power Center.
Connected to Shore Power + Inverter breaker on = Romex One is Energized in the forward bay.
Romex Two runs from the forward bay box in to the Distribution Box and is slpiced direcly to my 5 factory wired Invertable Receptacles in my Avenue.
1 Bedroom TV Receptacle
1 Right Bedroom nightstand Receptacle with built in USB charger, powered 120vac
1 Left Bedroom nightstand Receptacle with built in USB charger
1 Kitchen/Dinning Island Receptacle GFCI, I am hoping this is the beginning of Invertable Recepticals. I have not checked.
1 Livingroom TV Receptacle behind TV
The bummer is these Nightstand USBs are not powered by the RV batteries, the Receptacles must have 120Vac Shore Power or 120vac from my Inverter to work.
Before I changed the the factory wiring in the forward bay box, Romex One and Two were spliced together, Black to Black Hot, White to White Neutral, Bare Copper to Bare Copper Ground.
I know this might be redundant,
While connected to Shore power, and the Inverter breaker on. 120vac Shore power, goes from the Inverter breaker to the distubution box, out Romex One to the forward bay box then back to the distrubution box on Romex Two,, then is spliced to my Invertable Recepticals.
Without an Inverter everything acts like normal. However if you look behind the curtain (blank plate with yellow sticker) questions might come up.
Thank you for the great question. As I said, this is what I saw with my Avenue 32rls. Your millage my vary.
Thanks
Roger
PS
I am not sure how far you are with your Inverter project. Please feel free to ask if you need it.

CWDeasy, we found that the fridge wire ran to inverter box up front and wire nutted to another romex cable going to the panel. Don't remember whether is was hooked to fridge breaker or inverter breaker. Anyway we had to to run another wire from inverter junction box to panel in order to separate this issue. It was much easier to do that than run a wire from fridge direct to panel. Hope this helps. Mike

The "always hot" connects to your inverter AC in, the other is to the AC out on the inverter. The AC out runs to your breaker/fuse box and a 15 amp breaker then to plugs which are designated on the inverter circuit. The breaker is on the 12 volt side into the inverter from the battery. I think your fridge is 12 volt so I don't see why the inverter would be involved. Our 22ML did not have the microwave on the inverter circuit but that may be a difference in models.

On the 32RLS with inverter prep next to solar control, that 4" covered box, being discussed I have a question. I was told by the dealer that is for an aftermarket inverter. Such as the Renogy 3000w inverter to match the MPPT charge controller. Has anyone wired that up there? I know many of you have said it would go to some 120v circuits. Would it provide power to the panel so I could run an ac unit? I am talking without shore power and on batteries/solar only. Common electrical sense indicates that if you have that inverter breaker closed, it will power up that one half of the 50 amp bus bar. The less I use, the longer the batteries last...

On our 22ML the inverter supplies only 5 plugs on a single 20amp breaker and does not power to either AC unit. There are people here who are powering AC units off of batteries and solar, I'm assuming they have added extra solar on the roof and lithium batteries. In addition there would have to be modifications to the electrical wiring at least on the 22ML. Do some searching here as there is information in other posts.

I’m a Victron Pro and will be doing another install on my own 2025 32. Done many installs and look forward to doing another one.

Great info here. What if my invertor doesn't have an AC IN? If I use the AC Out feed in that 4x4 box that leads to the panel or 4x4 boxes that feeds the plugins how would they get their shore power when the invertor is off?

What inverter to you have that does not have AC in? My Victron Multiplus takes AC in...passthrough to RV and uses some power to charge battery (if needed)

Here is an older image of our system (needs to be updated with DC-to-DC install) that will show you the power flow

Sorry I should have mentioned It's a Renogy 3000.

You will need a transfer switch to make that work. Shore power and output of the inverter go into the transfer switch. I did a video on how to wire a transfer switch 7 years ago...and it still get a lot of views on YouTube

I have a new 2025 Alliance 32 RLS. I want to hook up an inverter. The trailer has the inverter prep in the front bay. I want to confirm that need to install a transfer switch. Can someone provide a breakdown of how to install in the inverter. Thanks

It is possible to find an inverter that has a transfer switch built in rather then a separate transfer switch.

I found this in the owners manual of what I believe is your camper.
"Factory Solar Option: (if equipped) The Renogy 2000W 12V Inverter provides 2000W continuous"
Although that inverter that is shown in the manual does not have a transfer switch, seems odd. I would look for a 2000w inverter with a transfer switch

Yes, the PD1620 inverter that came with my 2022 32RLS has an internal transfer switch.
