Top and bottom of the slide mechanism in the corners. It wasn’t behind the mechanism, it’s was on the outside part. So basically the mechanism was installed the sealed around the top and bottom.

So, not sure if you ever got your answer on the “How” , but the ”Why” is that sealant is there to seal the jam to the lower pan area of the slide. It helps to prevent water from getting in behind and working its way back under the pan and or jam.

As far as application, it could be time to get creative if you can’t gain access to apply it with a caulking gun or squeeze tube. Perhaps a Popsicle stick, tounge depressed, maybe even a non medical large bore siringe with a piece of tube on it to direct it. Hope the project is going well!
