Slide toppers

We have a 2024 395ds has anybody have a slide topper put on the door side slide? I know that there isn't much room with the awing on the slide. All my other RV had slide toppers and I would like to have then installed on all 4 slides.

We had them put on our 29RL right after buying and no issues at all as the Alliance Avenue is already preped for them. Easy and work very well. 7ACMike

If I remember correctly our cost for 2 as we don't have the br slide it was less than $1000 for both installed. 7ACmike

We had general do it before we took delivery. They were running a special. I believe it was about $2500 for all 3 installed. Probably cheaper to have them done aftermarket. Nice Rig. we have the same thing.

On my 310RL the dealer installed them prior to us taking delivery. They did have to move it over slightly due to a similar situation to your trailer. The topper and the front patio awning would conflict. Normally the topper overhangs both ends of the slide box. At the door our topper is even with the slide box. There was no conflict with the rear awning.

What is the preferred way to attach toppers? We bought our 2024 Paradigm 340 RL off the lot w/o toppers so we had the dealer install them. They used screws. About halfway through our 5000 mile trip out west the back living area topper pulled out of the slide (sounded like a grenade went off!) & that’s when we saw the screws. I’m going to tell the dealer to bolt them on when they are replaced. I was happy they were covered under warranty. Probably should have them bolt the other 2 on while they have it at the shop.

I'd love to see images of how your dealer installed them with just screws. I am pretty sure all RV's leave Alliance factory with the slide-out bracket installed. Then if you (or dealer) install them, the process is straight forward with a mounting plate. Here is how the install looks on our 340RL.

Ok Mr Jim, you got me on that detail. The brackets were installed at the factory & the toppers were installed by the dealer. The point is the brackets were installed with screws which seems to me to be a poor practice given the tension generated when the slide is opened & what happened to us as a result.

Our 29RL also had the brackets installed by the factory and the dealer added slide toppers. We had an issue with the dealer only installing 1 screw on the bracket with the motor on it thst slides into the bracket. Master 2 weeks before twisting out and destroying the motor and bracket. Dealer corrected it with new motor, bracket and driling a 2nd hole and putting a set screw in place. There was a set screw hole in the long rod but it needed a new one drilled hole. 7 ACmike

I think ballistic rivets would be a better choice than screws. I believe they were recommended by alliance even. Search the threads as I don’t recall when I seen that.

I am not sure if Alliance installs all 5 of the screws on the mounting bracket....most MFG's will only put in 2 of the 5. Then it is up to the installer to install the remaining 3 screws.

For the mounting plate, the 2x set screws should be installed with Loctite. When you look at the mounting plate there are 4 holes, but only 2 are used. This is because the plate install height is adjustable and only 2 horizontal screw lines will match the mounting bracket.

Where did yours come off? The mounting bracket (#1 in image) or the plate (#2 in image)

I reviewed my photos & surprisingly couldn’t find any showing the bracket & screws after the incident. I do remember more than 3 screws pulled out because I was the one who pulled them out of the bracket when we were cleaning up. I think all required screws were installed by either Alliance or the dealer.

To be specific, the mounting brackets, installed using screws, pulled off the side of the trailer slide.

On my 29RL the #2 bracket where where motor mounts is where the bracket needed the 2nd set screw installed.

Unless the process has changed, there is only 1 set (2 screws) used. Trying to add the other 2 will do nothing as the bracket is not lined up with the mounting plate. It is designed to only us 2 screws based on the height of the plate.
