Got it. Is the wire upgraded? is the wire rated for 30 amps. I assume it is?
and that your truck does provide 30 amps or close to the trailer?
Lantley,
In my example the truck is all original as built from the factory. So it was designed for the 30 amp rating from the drawing board.
The key things to remember here are that many things go into the design of a circuit and the amperage it can support.(wire size, length, bundle size, voltage and of course it’s expected demand/load to name a few.)
Also remember that because a circuit is designed for a given rating, it doesn’t mean that the maximum amperage is always present in the circuit.
Amperage is a function of the load being asked of it by a given device.
So for our discussion, the charge line would only have a measurable amperage when there is a load being placed on it.
So at the end of the day, if we use a 30 amp charge circuit as an example, the measured amperage at any given time could be 0 to 30 amps depending on the demand/load being placed on it.
Many variables are involved, so I offer this as general discussion.
