Water Filtration: Blu Tech, Clear Source, others?

I bought most of the stuff on Amazon, except the nipples and stainless Tee fitting.

Below is the reducing bushing to mount the gauge:

Below is the link to the Gauge:

Below is the link for the Stainless Steel quick disconnects:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C5P84NHN?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_8

Below is the link to the Adapters to connect the quick disconnects to the 3/4" pipe thread. All of the quick disconnects that I found would only connect to a hose thread. So I needed to convert between the two types for both ends, so there's 2 links

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CP388L73?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_8

I used a bunch of 3/4" stainless nipples and a stainless tee that I picked up a Lowes or HD. I also installed quick connects on my potable water hose as well (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4T5V52?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_5) As a general rule I don't usually mix metals, meaning I don't connect stainless steel to brass or vice versa. My water hose has brass fittings so I used brass quick connects. Is it a big deal if you mix metals, probably not, but I played it safe.

Lastly don't forget to use pipe dope of Teflon tape.

Have Fun!

Bob
Sincerely, super generous of you to have shared all of that and I do appreciate it! I stopped using tape a long time ago and have moved on to Loctite 55. For me, it has always performed better than dope or PTFE...all have merits and detractors though.

The incorrect adapters (not NPT to GHT) were sent but will be here on Sunday so just about done; not that this was a time intensive project. Anyhow, the cost savings are remarkable. Saved ~$500.00 compared to the below and I did go with 3/4" full flow fittings so it might be a little better. I am still using Clear Source virus filtering media.

I may switch to Pex once I decide where to mount it in the rig.

Looks nice. Here’s a pic of mine. I only done a 2 stage. I did buy the blu hoses and quick connects. So far never been sick and alway
drink from the faucet. Let’s see some pics after it is hooked up.

That manifold makes so much sense. Off to Lowe’s again I guess! Actually, on that note, I’m surprised that alliance has the cutoffs at the terminal plumbing points as opposed to on a manifold. Seems that there would be fewer failure points.

Valors have a manifold system with all shutoffs at the wet bay - no clue why they aren't adapting that across at least the paradigm line as well.

This is a great writeup and links though! I wish I thought of compiling a filter setup al la carte.. I plumbed in the clearsource ultra system right when we got our unit last year - could have saved a ton of coin on the same performance..

On the note of clear source, they are now recommending that if an owner is using the virus filtering media that it should be placed at the second stage and the charcoal media should be the third stage. I think they notified all owners but it is on their website somewhere too. The reason was the discovered better water quality with this configuration.

Now I'm trying to find where they posted that guidance. So take what i said with a grain of salt. If I can't find it, I'll delete it. Pretty sure I did read that.

We have never used any filters, never had any problems but I'm going to be laid up for awhile so I'm looking for a project. My question is what the filters do to your water pressure and volume? Don't do a lot of boon docking and I'm thinking of going to a larger filter with 1" ports.

I had the same thoughts. The pex in my 5th wheel is half inch. So I don’t think it will be a big deal or noticeable anyway. I switch to Blu fresh water hose which is small also. I have not noticed any difference. As long as your filters are not clogged up and need to be changed I’m not sure you will be able to tell any difference.

So far it hasn't done much to reduce the pressure. I have an adjustable preasure restricter with a gauge on my water hose, so I know the pressure going in to the filter. We also have a pressure gauge on the output side of the water filter, so I know the pressure going into the trailer. I currently use 3 filters, a 5 micron (for sediment), a 1 micron and a .5 micron carbon filter and I haven't noticed any real reduction in the pressure. I am amazed at the crap the sediment filter picks up. I'm planning to us a .2 micron filter.
