Trying to identify metal box behind passenger side pass thru wall.

Just as the title asks, I see the heavy black AC cable going to it and out of it. Its not the convertor as thats on the floor below the breakers. I want to install an inline EMS and break that cable near the box as its an easy location to service. One side of the cable seems to run back to the breaker area. Cant really tell where the other goes as I am just seeing it from the other side. This is on a Paradigm 310rl.

That would be your transfer switch. You either have the genset prep option or an actual generator.

Oh yeah thats right, camper is gen prepped. So it would be OK to cut into that line. I dont have the Onan generator and never will. Does it matter which side I tap into?

Love to see a picture, before you go cutting power lines.

A transfer switch will have 2 incoming lines (Shore & Gen) and one outgoing line (to breaker panel)

When I remove the wall, I'll take pictures. I can see the one going to the breaker panel. That is probably the best place to splice in.

So, this is where instructions should be followed. Depending on your EMS/ Surge protector manufacturer, they may call out a specific spot in the circuit.

For example, our power watch dog specifies that it be wired between the shore power wall connection and the transfer switch supply.
I know that some folks have traveled a different path and mounted it between the transfer switch outlet and the panel so that they can monitor things no matter the source.

As much as I would have loved to do the same, I couldn’t bring myself to stray from the instructions, electrical is nothing to mess around with. I figured the manufacturer has a reason for specifically calling that out in their instructions.

I agree with Bryan...keep the EMS (Watchdog is what I use) as first point of contact from Shore power. Here is my setup, you'll see I have our Watchdog wired between Shore and MultiPlus

I hear you. Had to get rid of mine for the same reason, expensive mistake. I don't know about you but my replacement batteries perform so much better.......
