Shower surround wall panel - gap near shower pan

Creek,
I think the primary reason IMHO is that the walls and pan are going to move differently while going through the earthquake of travel days. All the movement would leave a sealant bead in tough shape over time. With the lip built on the pan, no water will migrate upward and over. Vapor may migrate but by not sealing it has a place to escape. So far so good on ours and the fix in future models is one piece units.

The vapor is indeed migrating upward as I am getting a brown goo at the foot of the wall panel as I think the back of the panel is not waterproof. As soon as I can get it dried out I will seal it and see what happens I’ve got nothing to lose.
