What truck do you have? If a Ford, check out the TrailerSaver that was just posted for sale.
sorry Jim for late reply. RAM 5500. We got a Curt 30K so all set now on hitch.. works well.. more I load up the pin weight.. the better the truck rides !

We liked the 5th wheel. But yes, it is too big, heavy, and didn’t play well with a lot of parks and some campgrounds. As far as a ‘camper’ goes, the Montana was tremendous. But pulling one burns gas a few times per mile more than a travel trailer. The cost of gas is irrelevant; we feel guilty wasting petroleum at the rate we burned with a heavy, non-aerodynamic 5th wheel. And yes, it is far bigger than two people need. We don’t boondock; we try to stay in military campgrounds when possible, and parks when available. Commercial campgrounds are OK, depending on location. We aren’t new to campers: we own four campers….three are vintage campers plus whichever modern camper we have at the time. Have fun with your new 5th wheel.

I had a demo auto slide in my ram 2500 short box, I loved it but was kinda a pain if you unhooked at an angle. Great hitch though, fairly heavy. I sold that when I bought my ram 3500 and now use the Oem Curt 30k. Works like a champ and simple. I’ve looked at the BD5 and it’s just a bit spendy and bulky(it is no doubt smooth, I’m sure). My old 5er has the air ride pin box and centerpoint air ride. I know I am not much help and ultimately it’s your choice to make in the end.

I'm about to sell a 30k hitch for a RAM 3500. I had to try and get that thing out of the back, and said NO MORE. I've supposedly got a Gen-Y Executive on the way to replace the 5th wheel. If they'll get on with delivering it.

I have the Gen-Y Executive and the B&W OEM Ball and Safety Chain Kit.
Lots of room in my trucks bed when not in use. Expensive? Its all relative. Happly use it with my Chevy 2500hd 6 foot bed pulling an Avenue 32rls.
Gen-Y is correct, first 1000 miles are noticeable, however now, it's smooth, easy to hitch and you don't need to straight (in line with 5th wheel), just enough to pull away leaving the trailer behind. I just need to find someone needs the original factory pin box. Advertising it For Sale on the forum would be useless because nobody needs one.

I just wanted mine GONE. Put it on Facebook marketplace for $100 and it was gone the next day.

I've used my Gen-Y with the B&W OEM Ball kit for over a year now, and LOVE it. Just get a longer emergency brake cable. hehe. Mine would brake away and the Valor's wheels would lock up if I had to back up too sharp.

I am looking at the Gen Y... but Lippert will only warranty frame issues (frame flex) with a regular fifth wheel hitch or the Goose Box. I use the Goose Box on my current 5th wheel trailer and I love it. I'm getting ready to trade that trailer for a Valor that is will probably exceed the weight for the Goose Box, so that's why I'm considering the Gen Y. Are you happy with the Gen Y?

We have the Pullrite 20k autoslider and works great with the 24 Silverado 3500hd SB SRW and 24 Paradigm 385FL. It's a must with a short bed and you do not have to remember to pull a lever, it's all automatic.

Put a new PullRite OEX Superlite on a short bed F350 towing a 36V11. Very easy to hook up particularly on uneven terrain. Very flexible while towing as there is some room for the truck and trailer to pitch and roll. Only complaint is that a relatively slow speed it surges a little bit. Great turning ratio for short beds without the weight of a autoslider.IMG_3223.jpegIMG_3221.jpegIMG_3222.jpeg

Columine....I am in search of a 5th wheel hitch system. Pullrite appears to be a solid hitch and is somewhat lighter than the B&W Companion. Why did you select the PullRite? Im on the fence with these 2 hitches.

Is it required to have the isolator or lock out kit for rota flex hitches? I have the Andersen hitch which needs the lockout to prevent the flex.

According to roto-flex and Andersen you are supposed to use the lock put kit. The kit bars don't fit very well so ended up making my own lock out bars. I have the Andersen and it's very simple, turns very short and is quickly and easily removable. That's my 2 Cents. Mike

Pull Rite Superslide if you have a standard or short bed.
Bet hitch on the market. The way that king pin gets latched in provides a comfortable tow and great peace of mind.
yes it is a bit more money but you get what you pay for. This thing is solid.

Now that we have opinions on pretty much the whole market, clear as mud. Buy what trips your trigger. They will all work. Short bed , buy a slider, takes the worry out. Long bed, pretty much any hitch, except an Anderson ultimate or others like it(don’t trust them).
