We have a 385FL fifth wheel and we have an issue with our refrigerator right hand side handle. It seems to be disconnected from the cable in the door. How can we fix this. Thank you for any help.

Well, I actually found a service manual for the 12 volt refrigerator’s that we have. Unfortunately, it doesn’t mention any thing about handle repairs.

You might have to just start looking for screws to remove that would gain you access to the latch cavity.

Went to google found a site that said you need part # NRC 640973. Then to partswarehouse.com that had that part listed but said to call, I didn't make the call. Hope this helps.

Attached is the Norcold service bulletin describing how to install the replacement door latch cable. This document was provided by Thetford which owns Norcold and now with the Norcold bankruptcy they have stepped up to the plate to make Customer Service a positive experience.

I completed my cable replacement today. Removing the door is necessary as the bottom cable latch attachment to the locking pin is a little tricky and gravity is not your friend in this case.

Bryan, two questions:
1. Did you have to contact Thetford directly or was the cable found online? I can't find it on their website.
2. In case it cannot be found for sale did it look like something you could fabricate from or repair with aircraft cable?

I ordered the part on-line from someone other than Thetford or Norcold. It was PDX RV LLC through eBay.

To me, it appears unlikely that the part can be fabricated from other components unless you’re exceptionally gifted.

The Norcold door latch cable looks extremely similar to a bicycle brake cable. After doing a little more research, it appears to be very feasible to fabricate a replacement from bicycle brake cable kits.
