MPPT 150/85-TR Battery Connections (Borrowing 12V for TPMS Repeater)...

Hello Folks,

Another electrical question. I have a TPS monitoring system repeater for my tires that requires 12V power. I want the repeater install location to be as close to the rear of my truck (on the RV) as possible. My solar equipment is in the very front of my large bay above the generator. Can I use the battery side + & - for connecting my TPS repeater? See attached image...

Personally, I would not recommend that approach. You would be better suited to locate the 12 volt bus bar and provide a fused circuit to you TPS.

The repeater has a fuse in line. Will that do? Thanks for the reply.

When attaching to the buss bar, a breaker or fuse should be as close to the voltage source as possible.
Fusing is really about protecting the wiring from being overloaded in a short condition.

I would not recommend that you borrow from the Solar Controller. It would not be consider best practice.

My Renogy Combiner Box 500A is behind my battery, which would have to be removed, is the only bus I can see. I have a motion activated light in the same compartment. What are your thought of me tying into that for power? I'm assuming it has constant power, with the circuit being normally closed till motion is detected. May be a BAD assumption. Thanks again.

Have you checked behind the panels where you hydraulic pump is located at?
Our 310 RL buss is located on the back wall behind the partition panels that hide the pump.
Your other option would be to wire it directly to the battery with fusing and or a switch.
It is never wise to just borrow from another circuit, with out a fully understand of what that circuit can handle and the additional demand that will be placed on it from a new device.
