Mattress replacement

Has anybody replaced their mattress with another mattress that is thicker than the original mattress. And if the mattress was thicker what did you do with the headboard. The reason I’m asking is I want to replace my king mattress with a queen but I afraid the extra thickness of the new mattress will cause a lot of pressure on the slide when it is closed. Right now my mattress just barely contacts the dresser. But my mattress fits under the headboard and the new one is too thick to fit under the headboard. The headboard adds about 2”. I don’t want a short queen. I have a 2023 295MK.

we have a 2024 32 RLS Avenue and we purchased a king size wilderness mattress and when the slide is closed it touches the dresser at the end but doesn't have any effect on it. slide is working just fine with the extra weight also

There are posts on this forum on how to cut down your headboard. Very simple, I did it myself with a box cutter and a staple gun. We were worried about the extra compression as well, once e cut the headboard down and the mattress fit under it, no more issue. I think you can search for it on this site. Let me know if you cannot find it.

Good luck,

Did ours also. Used a hacksaw blade (watched an upholstery guy cut foam on utube video) to cut it. Not hard.

Our headboard was glued to the wall with hot glue and only a portion of the glue on each side actually was contacting the glue and wall, so we just pulled the headboard out completely and cleaned the wall. Then we ordered an 8" x 70" x 80" coil spring mattress. We are currently on our first trip with the new mattress and love it. The mattress is the same height as our side board shelfs, so that works well for us and no more compressing the mattress against the dresser when the slide is in. Plus, the narrower bed makes it easier to put the fitted sheet on and when making the bed.
