Latch on Alliance Delta Step Above Stairs

Hello - we are new Alliance Delta owners and our solid steps have only one latch (on the left side) to hold the steps up. They don’t seem very solid to us with the potential to rattle against the door when traveling. These are Step Above steps. Our dealer said that a latch on one side is correct, but our previous trailer had latches on both sides, with a handle in the middle to release. My questions is two parts: 1. Is it correct to have a latch only on one side? 2. If so, is it holding your steps OK / not damaging the door? Thank you for your input.

Our 2018 Montana had the Moryde step above steps and they didn’t have a latch holding them in the stored position. Never had a problem with them working against the door. We actually preferred them to the Lippert solid steps in the Paradigm. Much easier to adjust.

Evening, I have a new 2025 Alliance Paradigm 310rl with the same question.... one latch is causing the ladder to rattle against the screen door, which is already showing signs of scratches. I went ahead and purchased one through etrailer....which is an exact match. Puts some rivets and a knob and now no more issues. Bottom line.. they need to put two latches and not to cut corners...

Our 2023 340RL has a double latch. Wonder what year they moved to a single latch?
The Moryde step above steps didn’t have a latch when they first came out so one is something new. The Lippert solid steps are the ones with the double latch with the handle in the middle.

I'm not sure which type came OEM on my 22 Paradigm,but6 I got rid of them. Too cumbersome adjusting the legs with their cotter pin system was a joke. I replaced them with Torxlift uprising steps.
The Torxlift have more adjustment and flexibility. They are able to adapt to unlevel ground easier and don't have to be fully extended to use them.
They don't have the same limitations of the Lippert or Morryde steps.

Our '24 Delta 292RL does just have the one latch. I haven't noticed any wear on the door, but it is in storage, so I can't take a closer look at the moment.

I ended up buying a second latch from e-trailer and now have them on both sides. They are much more secure for travel. It is a little harder to open the steps, but worth it, in our opinion. IMG_0130.jpeg

Nice solution to a problem that never should have been one. (n)

The double latch works great on our 2023 340RL...I know there are cost savings going on here, but wow...they shoud have stayed with latches on both sides.

Alliance doesn't build the steps with one latch. Lippert does.

I've been to a few shows recently. All of the Lippert steps I saw had one latch. The style with the big handle in the center is the "old" style, used into 2024, I think.

One more update… the latch I added gave me problems with closing the screen door, so I took it back off. We’ll see how one does. So far so good.
