E3 error code on GE water heater

We have a 26’ 23ML that we purchased about 6 weeks ago. We have camped in it a couple times without issue. No issues for the first couple days of our last trip. Then I started getting an E3 error code and no hot water from my GE Profile tankless water heater. I have tried troubleshooting per the manual and followed the instructions from Alliance support without success. Anyone else have any experience or advice for this type of issue. I’m about 5 hours from my dealer so I’m trying to get it figured out and avoid the trip.

I see that the manual indicates E3 is a Thermal Cutoff.
Are you having any water flow problems on the HOT lines? Have you tried opening different combinations of faucets to see if it only happens with a specific one turned on?
My take is that your unit is cutting out on the thermal limit switch instead of the thermostat.
You might see if GE has a help line that you could reach out to.

Thanks for your quick reply.

I’ve tried several combinations of running faucets. I thought it may be the water pressure, so I tried again using the water pump. Still no luck. I responded to Alliance to let them know it still isn’t working. I’ll see what they come back with.

Update, GE ended up sending out a tech. He was able to narrow it down to one of the thermostats. The issue now is even he, nor anyone he could speak to on the phone, couldn’t get the part number to order a replacement. The guy tried for about 2 hours to get a part number. The schematic charts are vague and don’t list the part. I was able to get a temporary fix for the moment. Now I just have to figure out how to get the right part.
