Picked up our "new" used Paradigm 310RL and there was this cable in the bag. Does anyone know what it is? It looks like a probe of some kind. 20250111_205752 (1).jpg

It is a temperature sensor. It is to be plugged into your controller and attached to your battery. It alters the charging profile based on the sensed battery temperature.
One word of caution, it is NOT to be used if you have lithium batteries installed.

Yes Sir, that is a battery temperature sensor. It plugs into either the DC to DC charger or into you solar management unit. SRory, I didn’t notice BryanValRox already answered your question.

I have the same cable on my 385FL as per Tim Buss at Alliance Custoner Service on 3/26/24. That cable has nothing to due with your unit

Well, I hate to say it but, Tim is incorrect. It is without a doubt a temperature probe that plugs into the solar controller.
It is optional and used for temperature compensation while charging the battery.
Our’s was shipped loose in the literature bag on our unit.
I have ours installed. It is only to be used if you choose to on Non lithium batteries.

Would that cause the batteries to not charge correctly?
No it will not cause “Gross” mischarging. It is an optional feature if you would like to optimize the charging profile as the temperature changes.
Information on it can be found in the Renogy controller information.

Thanks for the input everyone. I found it in the manual for the charge controller and hooked it up today. Sounds like it adjusts charge rate for both high and low temperatures.

Wow. I was wondering what the helms that was. Found it in my literature packet. Huh never would’ve thought it was for the batteries. Sometimes I feel like I’m on an Easter egg hunt, looking for clues on how everything works. Would be really cool if someone would put all this knowledge in one place easily accessible and properly indexed. They could even call it “Owners Manual”.

Yes, It is woefully ignorant on alliance for not providing a printed manual on these rigs.

If they are placed adjacent one another, they should be the same temperature.

Should work just fine,

So it’s in the Renogy manual. How are we supposed to know a random loose part is for the Renogy thingy? We either have to search through all the odd manuals or spend hours searching and watching service videos trying to find the information we need. It’s all so easily avoidable. I spent a fair bit of time trying to find out what the two battery disconnects were for. Manual only showed one, located in the Nautilus compartment. Instead, I had two, located above the batteries. Just keep the bloody manual on line and current! A small label by each disconnect would be a simple solution as well.
It’s not rocket surgery! You need to look at it from the perspective of the customer. My previous job I had to train customer service people occasionally, I had to remind them the customer doesn’t understand your in-house abbreviations and slang. They are looking at this thing in many cases for the first time or have experience with a different brand/configuration.
Cheers
Creek
