Adding a second sealed FLA

Can this be any more complicated to wire than our diesel trucks? These have simple cables running from battery to battery.

Our trailer has the 320W panel, the Renogy Rover 20A MPPT controller and Progressive Dynamics PD1620A 2000W inverter with remote.

Sorry...I don't understand your question. Are you just trying to add a 2nd battery? If you're thinking of adding a 2nd flooded battery, please consider removing the existing one and just adding one lithium. It will take up less space...weight at least 50% less and preform better than any flooded battery can.

Thanks for your suggestion. Maybe I'll do that sometime. Presently, I simply want to add a second deep cycle battery that I already own using cables I already have. Since this is a solar system with an inverter, is there any reason why I can't simply connect the positives and the negatives of the two batteries, just like my truck?

I do use a 30W panel and a 10A MPPT controller to maintain the two batteries in another truck so this isn't completely alien to me. I just want to check on it because the Avenue is quite a bit more complex.

The connection strategy you are describing is a parallel connection. This will increase your capacity without increasing your voltage. So you are on the right track with your thought process. It will add capacity you desire without doing any harm.

First...turn everything off. Assuming they are both 12v, just cable them togeher like this.

My $0.02 ... Isn't it best practice to replace both batteries in a continuous use dual installation?
By that logic you should not add a battery to an existing one unless they are the same *exact* type/mfg/age.

When adding a old battery to new the batteries tend to equalize. Meaning the old battery and the new battery become one semi old battery.
THe negative part being the new battery is no longer new but it dragged down a bit to the level of the older battery.
However if you already have an extra battery and just want to add additional capacity the old battery will help.
Using a battery you already own that6 is in decent shape is an OK idea, mainly because the battery ius free vs. buying two batteries for maximum performance

Indeed, that's best practice. I've owned dual battery diesel pickups since 1990. I've had a few warranty replacement batteries in that time. I've never had a dealer offer to replace both so I'd have a matched set. and I've never bought a new one to accomplish the same. It never caused a problem that I remember.

In this case, both batteries are new. One is 500 CCA and the other is 650 CCA. Both are the sealed deep cycle. I'm not too concerned about it. This will do for a while and will do better than a single battery. It will offer experience with this new trailer and give me info toward what I want to do after this.

when my two Led Acid 12 volt battery’s get old In a year or so, can I just replace them with lithium batterys? Or do I need to do anything else?

Once you change to lithium, your 4 LED battery gauge is worthless. Lithium will hold a higher voltage down to about 10% of battery remaining. You will see 4 LED showing 100% charge, until it is waaaay too late. You need to install a battery shunt, which will show you the exact battery level and the amount of amps coming in & out of the battery.

The Victron shunt is by far the gold standard. The installation will take about 20 mins.

Then all you have to do is flip the converter to the Lithium profile.

And if you have Solar you will need to change the settings in the controller for Lithium. Your battery(s) will have the parameters that you will need to set the controller to.
