395DS mod ideas

My wife isn’t crazy about using the cabinet below cutout in the kitchen counter for a garbage can. It’s the cabinet you can access from the outside on the driver’s side.

I had an idea to build a holder/stand for a 5 gallon drinking water bottle with some kind of hand pump through the hole in the counter insert to use for drinking and cooking water. We don’t like the plastic taste of the water in the coach lines. I’ve done the bleach followed by vinegar to sanitize and then get rid of the taste, but it always comes back. Or maybe a small cooler and 5 gallons of something else, with a tap…

I don’t have any plans or parts yet. Has anyone tried this?

Hi there. I know you posted about 6 months ago about this but we just purchased our 395DS a few weeks ago. My husband and I didn’t like the idea of a trash shoot either. We opted to install a reverse osmosis water system and installed the parts in that storage area. It was rather easy for my handy hubby to do. Hopes this helps, if you haven’t already found a solution.

I'd like to know more about this, please!

Does the filter supply the whole coach or just one faucet, etc? Does it eliminate the plastic taste? If you husband has plans, even a sketch, I'd love to see it. Thanks!

Hey, we have a 395DS too. We were hesitant to use the trash chute because of food/trash easily making a mess in the closet and the lid has to be fully removed each time. I did not want to deal with smells and stains on our brand-new camper, so we designed and 3D-printed a chute insert that fits the existing hole. It has a flip lid and an integrated bag holder...so no missing the trash bag. It has made daily use much easier and feels like it completes the original design. Wonder if others have had the same concern?chute.JPG

Amazon has a possible solution that I'm looking to use in the RV. It's called ....

110V Drinking Water Pump for 5 Gallon Bottle Dispenser Pump System for Refrigerator Ice Maker Coffee Machine Faucet (Classic- Dual Inlet)

See if this is something that might work for you. You can get the bottle water from a local dealer, take it to a store and fill it at one of their filtered stations etc ... - Scott
