Hello all, I am installing my THIRD broken slide out ski on our rig.I watched an interesting YouTube this morning by Johnhawley jr. who did the steel slide skis .(I am ordering some tomorrow). He states that the wear bars should be positioned directly in front of the skis.Mine are not as seen from the image.Maybe this was my problem all along.Should I reposition them?IMG_1747.jpeg

In all the 8 years I had my Jayco trailer I do not ever remember seeing any posts about replacing slide skis. Are these issues common on slide outs or just another manufacturing defect on Alliance's part, that should be covered by a recall?

Did your Jayco have flush floors once slides are deployed? I see these slides skis on my sisters Grand Design, which also has flush floors.

Yes, I had one large LR slide that contained both the dinette and couch. When it was out the slide was flush with the floor. We sold it to my cousin last spring and it is still working fine, after 8 years.

I'm getting ready to replace one of my slde skis on oiur 2021 365RD. Of the 4 skis, one broke, the others look good (I check them every time we run the slides. What I have noticed on this unit and on our previous 5th wheel, is that if the ski isn't up flat against the bottom of the slide, it will most likely fail. I'd be curious if anyone else has noticed this.

Anybody get an accurate answer to the location of the wear bars? It seems even the factory is not sure. I checked mine, as I am getting ready to replace a set of skis. Wouldn't you know, the factory installed mine directly in front (not to the side) of the skis on all slides.

Yep,the pic shows the correct location, but I moved them anyway so the ski rides over them.
Hey TJJ, how has the new location worked out for you? It looks like you have a good 9 months of usage are they still holding up?

Well I guess I will answer my own question. I contacted Alliance and asked them about the placement of the wear bars. Here is their reply.

"Good morning.
Thank you for reaching out.
Your wear bars should be on the far left and right on the slide pan. They should stick past the edge of the slide floor.
When the slide comes in it will ride up on the slide pan then fall on the wear bars. This will keep it from touching the floor when coming all the way in.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions."

So, it appears that everyone that has them inboard of the edge of the slide(as shown in the first post in this thread) has them in the wrong position.

So, I followed up a bit more on this with Alliance. Hopefully, this will put it to rest.
It appears that if you have the new style skis from Alliance, the wear bar should be inboard and not touch the ski. If you have the old style ski, it should be out at the edge. Not sure when they changed from the old to the new, but the photo at the top of this thread appears to be the old style.

Here is the quote from Alliance support.
"With the old slide ski that covers the front edge, the wear bar needs to be out to the edge of the floor.
If the new slide skis are going to be installed you can leave the wear bar as the new ski cannot hit the wear bar."
