Adding a hitch receiver

Anyone have any suggestions on adding a hitch receiver to the back of a Valor? I’m looking for a way to store my families bikes. Deciding on a receiver is more challenging than I thought it would be. I’m thinking a universal one which bolts or welds is really the only option. Any thoughts or advice are appreciated.

What are you hauling in the garage? Just curious.

keep us posted on what you come up with. This was my solution on old unit.70569529504__77E8227F-A51F-4F0A-8346-08F2C943E955.jpegIMG_5199.jpeg

I'm not with our unit right now so I cant measure the depth of the rear bumper but I do know that it it is a formed bumper and not a piece of tube and the bottom seal of the door swipes across the top of the rear bumper so you'd want to avoid any universal mount that would need to protrude above the top of bumper line. So that means that your best bet may be bolting on from the bottom with a universal one, this way you could still use the ramp as a ramp if need be and if you ever remove it, it'll only leave holes on the bottom side of the bumper. Recommend use of large fender washers on the inside or better yet, a sandwich plate to spread the load.

Something like this: universal hitch receiver

that's good to know. Most bumper bolt on options are for 4' square tubing, which this rig's bumper is not. I havent measured but i think its 2x4. I reached out to etrailer and they're helping me. I'm going to have to use a universal and either bolt or weld to the ends of the frame rails. I'll post once complete!

I replied and then clicked your link. I hadn't seen that type yet. I'm inclined to do that, but I'm concerned about the weight on the bumper welds. Without going into details, I'm not confident in the Alliance workmanship here. The bumper is welded to the frame but only partially, I would have liked to see full welds. So who knows the bumper weight capacity.

Ok folks, I still need some help. After doing some measuring of the bumper and frame rails, adding a hitch is harder than I thought it would be. The distance between the frame rails is exactly 6 feet. The rails are I-beam and this is inside edge to inside edge. There are two 6" pieces of 2" square tube that connects the bumper to the frame rails. This is all welded.

So with the space between the rails, it looks like my options are to go with this one below and attached to those two 6" pieces of square tube. I think i would need to fully weld all of this, both the bumper attachments and this receiver. then potentially add bolts too just in case. The hard part is I don't even know if the actual receiver tube will go below the bumper. The bumper is 6"X3"

So the other option is the one suggested previously. Weld this to the bottom of the bumper, weld/bolt the bumper supports to the frame much better and call it a day. Thoughts?

We used the adjustable hitch on our previous travel trailer. It expanded out to the frames and we had it welded to ensure it was secure, worked great.
