Heat Pumps

I have a 2020 Valor 36V11 and the middle AC unit is bad. Need to replaced. Looking to replace it with a Heat Pump unit. The Rec Pro offers various sizes and a remote control . This middle unit also controls my Gas heat. My thought is to replace the unit and use the remote for colling and heating down to 30 Deg ish. Let the existing stat stay in place to only control the gas heat. Any one else done this yet?

Here is what I'm looking at. https://recpro.com/rv-air-conditioner-low-profile-13-5k-quiet-ac-with-heat-pump-remote-non-ducted/

I would think you wouldn’t be able to use the current thermostat to control the furnace. They control the AC unit which tells the furnace you are calling for heat. You would probably have to get a furnace only thermostat.

I would think the current thermostat could be used without issue to control the furnace. After all on the standard thermostat you select one mode or the other on the dual mode t stat. So in my mind the fact that it is no longer hooked to the ac unit wouldn’t matter because you would be calling for heat and it would “call” accordingly.

The RecPro comes with a wireless remote. Leave existing wired remote for heat only mode.

Or...replace the rear AC unit, with new one that has heatpump. Leave the middle AC unit and themostat in place to run propane heat and AC.

Yes the Rec pro comes with a remote to control it. No issue using the existing stat. Just leave it off or on Heat only. Cooling modes would be inoperable. The middle unit is the one that is bad. Looks like I will start there. Over time all 3 should be swapped out to heat pumps which would be nice.

Yes the recpro comes with a remote. I haven’t played with the new Coleman thermostats but I know the older Coleman’s and all Dometic have no direct connection to the furnace. They just use a single wire to tell the AC controller it is calling for heat and that makes the connection for the furnace.

You bring up a great point that I never considered. Where does the original thermostat get its power source from?
Does it come from the AC unit? Or a chassis buss connection?
This is important to understand, because if it comes from the AC unit that will no longer be there, the original t- stat wouldn’t work because it will be missing at least it’s power and ground circuits.🤔

I am thinking it comes from the chassis because my t stats are on when the master is on with no shore power present.
And I believe the tstat would have a direct output to the furnace to trigger it. Assuming it is the heat and cool model.

The thermostats are 12 volt so they get their power from the even 12 volt system. The furnace controller has 2 wires for the thermostat. Unless both of them are connected to the Coleman thermostat which I don’t believe they are it will not control the furnace.

Swapped the old Colman out with the Turbo Inverter heatpump. Not hard to do and Yes the 12 VDC for the old t-stat is common to all 3 AC units and from the 12 VDC House system. Disconnecting it from the Old AC was no issue just capped them off. Propane heater still works on the old T-stat. Disconneted the 120Vac and reconnected to the new Inverter heatpump and all is good. the hardest parts was pulling the new unit up onto the roof. Lowering the old unit down was much easier. Intersting thing is the wire for this 120 Vac AC unit was 12 Awg but it is on a 15 amp breaker. there a a few things i ned to figure out using the remote or the App. If anything changes i will keep this open.

Thanks for keeps the inquiring minds of this forum informed!!!! Glad the t-stats worked out without issues.
