PullRite: Super slide Question?

My PullRite Super Slide 5th wheel hitch slides back and forth during take off and stopping when not hooked to the trailer. I keep the hitch lightly oiled with WD40 on the runners per directions? Is this normal and I will need to tie it off? or am I missing a lock somewhere to keep it from sliding And banging back and forth?

The front bolt adjustment will eliminate the back and forth. As the hitch is used/wears a slight adjustment to this bolt will be necessary. We love our autoslide, works great!

You want it tight enough to take some two-handed effort to manually rotate it, but no tighter than that. If you cannot re-center it, it is too tight.

Go to the pullrite site, they have a great video on the adjustment. You losses the nut against the metal plate and turn the large stop in or out as needed for adjustment. Then tighten the lock nut back down.

worked great
now I have to figure out how to reset my cab side pucks? They where chucking, tried to tighten them and messed them up.
need to readjust the front pucks?

Do you mean adjusting the depth of the inserts? You need to have all of them adjusted enough that you have to use some effort to lock them in place with the handles, but you should not have to use a hammer or mallet to use the handles. Pullrite has a video for this adjustment, too.

Do you mean adjusting the depth of the inserts? You need to have all of them adjusted enough that you have to use some effort to lock them in place with the handles, but you should not have to use a hammer or mallet to use the handles. Pullrite has a video for this adjustment, too.

i got it all figured out. I had messed up the tightening? Had them all out of wack. Got it all figured out once I backed all the bolts off I had overtightened.

Hey Bruce,
is it better to leave the hitch lock open or closed when hitch is not in use? Maybe it makes no difference?
Just may be better to have no tension on the spring? Any Thoughts?

That’s what I have been doing.
That latch slapping around that kingpin is music to my ears. Now that my Hitch is all tuned up I’m ready for a month long trip and now I know to check and maintain it better. I came from Class A and the Hitch was never an issue I was used to checking regularly and it got shifty on me. The Class A has its own list of trouble makers to check pre trip, the hitch is just not one I was used to?
It is now added to my Pre-Trip List!
Lesson Learned!

I agree with Darrellǰ. I had not considered the storage position until you asked the question. Evidently I store it in the open position. Good question, but I like Darrell's answer.

I will say, never forget your capture plate. I recently picked up from storage and forgot to put the plate on. Works for a while until it does not. Fortunately no harm, no foul. Storage facility has to have it removed so they can move it.

Another tip, if you cannot get the latch to release when you park, back the truck into the trailer just a bit to remove the tension. Use wheel chocks or grab the trailer brake and just push the truck back a little. It will remove the bind and you will be able to unlatch. It also takes a little while to see just how high you need to raise the trailer to drive out, but just enough that you can see a little gap between the capture plate and the hitch head. And no lube plates - just WD40 on head and rails is all you need.
