Propane Tank Bay Floor

We have a 2024 Avenue 29RL. And I was a little surprised to find brackets and not a floor beneath the 30 pound tanks. We have the MOPEAKA devices that magnetically attach to the base. However with no solid base I suspect they could very easily bounce off on a rough road. Has anyone addressed the problem? I am thinking of getting a metal 12”x12” plate and then possibly custom cutting a treated plywood base to custom fit the space and add rigidity and seal out moisture. Suggestions?

That space is left open on purpose. Propane is heavier than air. So if there was ever a leak the propane would not be trapped in your rig.

Its Ok to put in some sort of floor however be sure there is plenty o0f ventilation beneath tanks. Do not make it air tight below tanks.
If you use metal plate be sure to put some sort of venting in place.

A Mopeka sensor can fall off as you suspect. Recently one of my sensors reported empty but when I unstrapped the bottle and reattached the sensor it read accurately. again. Thankfully there is a floor underneath the bottle built in to our 310RL or I would have lost the sensor. If it happens again I'll consider a thin piece of foam rubber to hold it up.
BTW - I use the rubber grommet that Mopeka sells for the rim which may have contributed to the occurrence since it does raise the bottle up about 1/16".

Thanks … I bought the rims as well! On our tow behind there was a base … but not here! There are some really rough roads we travel along Lake Ontario so I will probably put a small base under the tanks … just in case!

I want to share that yesterday, I took one of my 30# propane tanks to a Tractor Supply for a refill and when they handed the tank back to me, the Mopeka Pro (round) sensor was missing. It had fallen off and was on the scale. That said, I think adding some sort of a perforated floor to our propane holder is warranted. Because I have a Delta (travel trailer), the tanks on on the A-frame and a 2-tank kit is supplied. There is a floor under each tank in this kit.

I found my fix I bought the brackets for the tank bottom and screwed on 2 12”x12” diamond plates onto the bracket! Looks and works perfect!
