Why water filter?

Some questions about water filters:

!. Why?
2. Do you filer everything that comes in or just drinking water?
3. What are you expecting to remove from the water?
4. How long do you expect the water in the tank to be drinkable if the filters remove chlorine?
5. How often do you think the system needs to be sanitized?

Just looking for information. Thanks

I like a basic in line hose filter just to filter the sand and stuff out of some sketchy rv park water systems?

I like to remove the Corine as well.

Sanitize at start of camping season.

i don’t drink the water, just shower and brush teeth and wash dishes.

!. Why? - Because water quality standards are garbage and some water around the country is not good. Ever tried the water in Sioux Falls, SD? its federally compliant, most of the time, but definitely gross.
2. Do you filer everything that comes in or just drinking water? I filter and soften everything that comes in directly from inlet.
3. What are you expecting to remove from the water? All the things that make it hard and gross, and unhealthy.
4. How long do you expect the water in the tank to be drinkable if the filters remove chlorine? We don't drink the water in the fresh tank unless running through another brita-like filter container in the fridge.
5. How often do you think the system needs to be sanitized? We sanitize about once a year or pre-trip if it has been sitting.

I am different probably then most.

!. Why?
A: I am on well water where I live so it is normal for me.
2. Do you filer everything that comes in or just drinking water?
A: Everything
3. What are you expecting to remove from the water?
A: Sediment 5 micron and charcoal filter 1 micron to make it taste good.
4. How long do you expect the water in the tank to be drinkable if the filters remove chlorine?
A: I change out my 15 gallons I keep in the fresh tank every few weeks if I have not used it much or it has set in the tank.
5. How often do you think the system needs to be sanitized?
A: I do it every April when I open the trailer. Winterize in Oct.

I drink my water in my camper. I drink out of the fresh tank and out of the faucets. Never been sick. I fill up my water jugs when we go hiking or bike riding. Grew up drinking out of a garden hose, spent 20 years in the Army drinking out of water buffalo’s, lister bags, and canteens.

I did build my own two stage system with parts from Lowe’s. Change the filters out every year mid camping season (July/August). That’s just what I do. Everyone has to make their own mind up on how to do it. Is there a risk, you bet but that same risk is there every time you go out to eat and they bring you a glass of water.

!. Why? I've seen enough chemical analysis reports of municipal water supplies.
2. Do you filer everything that comes in or just drinking water? Both. General use water to 2 micron and drinking water to 1 micron.
3. What are you expecting to remove from the water? Chemicals, organics, and some harmful minerals (arsenic, selenium).
4. How long do you expect the water in the tank to be drinkable if the filters remove chlorine? Tank water is replaced every 45 days.
5. How often do you think the system needs to be sanitized? Annually is the basic suggestion. However, if time and labor allows, an additional sanitization halfway through the season couldn't hurt.
Both my wife and I are very wary of water concerns due to past experiences. Do what's best for you.

Thanks for the replies. I built a two stage filter mainly hoping to make water/ice taste better for my wife. After installing I got to wondering about letting the water sit in a tank with the chlorine removed and how long it could sit before things started growing. We have been in various forms of RV's without filters for 50 years and never had a problem and don't want to create one. Again thanks for the replies.
