Wheel Bering Seals Broke and fouled My Breaks?

Took my 2024 295MK in for yearly wheel bearings pack and found out they had busted out of seal and ruined my break pads?

i have never inspected Bearings until now? What causes them to blow out the seal? Must have been a from the factory issue as I have never pulled wheels until now?
I will try and get warranty to pay for the fix Since it should not do that and it is still under warranty?

was it over packed at factory?

thanks

Rider, how many are leaking?

I had one leak slightly from new do to someone hurrying on the Dexter line. You could clearly see that they dented the seal during installation. Very like by hitting it on the spindle when they were installing it. This distorted the seal and caused grease to collect on the spindle on our disk brakes.(no pad damage).

Seal leakage could be from many things, Mis installation of the seal in the bore, or strike damage during hub installation, bad hub run out, incorrectly adjust wheel bearing, excessive heat, defective part.
While overfill is a possibility, I personally discount it, the EZ lube option is designed to have grease exit the spindle at the rear, enter the cavity between the seal and the inner bearing, push grease thru the bearing into the hub cavity and out thru the outer bearing and into the grease cup.
Grease will always take the path of least resistance, so if you think about that statement, the cavities really need to be full for the grease to travel to the next section of the assembly.

It also is possible that someone could have damaged it during the greasing process by using a Powered Grease Gun.

Grab pictures and save the parts and see if Dexter will cover you under warranty.

@Oregon_Camper this post is an example where it would be beneficial to be able to have others indicate it is useful/helpful (usually a green check on my vehicle forums). Any way you can see if their forum software has that capability and if there is a willingness to enable it here?

Does your spindle have a grease fitting where you can pump grease into the bearings? I heard that those system can be problematic and can blow out the rear seal.

The driver side was bad, Front Driver side the worst, but all break pads had grease on them on both sides?
My dust cap was all crushed in as well?
Trying to get Alliance to cover the repair as I am 1 month out of warranty? We will see? $530.00 Quid!

Not sure? I have never messed with it until now. Dexter got sloppy I guess?

$530 bucks to repair both sides seems like a really fair price. Are you saying that both the driver and passenger side of the rig have grease expelled past the seals? That is very odd and I would go to improper manufacturing. They pull these things of pallets in the assembly process so maybe a bad CNC run at the factory? The only reason I am bringing that up is that if the tolerances are off from the manufacturer of the bearing or hub assembly, it's just going to happen again if you replace the seals and caps.

Wow!
Someone really did a job on your grease cap, or it could be strike damage from the axle shipping to Alliance and the line just flat out ignored it.

It was a smart move to have your bearings repacked, obviously it lead to the discovery of the grease seal leaking and your pad contamination.

I bought a relatively inexpensive steerable endoscope and insert it through the inspection hole on the brake backing plate to check my seals. Works great and has a lot of other uses, I checked out my black tank to see how clean it was, insert in above the coroplast to look in the underbelly etc.

I opened a ticket with Dexter and alliance. Alliance wants me to start a claim on Dexter So I will.
so far Alliance has been on top of it with me? We will see if I recoup my money?
time will tell

Yes both sides had grease leak. Driver side was the worst.

Wow...Good for you!

I found the exact same thing on our first trailer (Transcend), only I never thought to file a claim with Grand Design. :-(

I know some will disagree, but I never use the E-Z Lube or Bearing Buddy (whatever they are called) to lube my bearings. I lube my bearings (the old fashion way) once a year or every 10K-12K miles. So at the start of every RV season, I take the tires off (one at a time), then I take the hubs apart and manually lube our trailer bearings. While I'm doing it I inspect everything and adjust the brakes. Its just too easy to overload the rear bearing seal when using the E-L load system and squish grease onto your brake shoes.
