Just finished installing 235/85R16 tires with new wheels on our 29RL and Sumo springs on both axles. I also found that all the Avenues were to come with the 235/85R16 tires and ours did not! Been a concern since picking up in May as our rear jacks were 5" off the ground when hooked up and the bed clearance at the rear of the bed was 6" as well so "NO" room there to lower it. Stock Chevy 2500 Duramax. Got a close friend with a tire store so got tires and wheels from him, installed and did some measuring and all looked great with the 235/85R16. Reread the Avenue owners manual and it states "we use 235/85R16 on all Avenue trailers". needless to say my rig now tows very close to level with "8 of clearance on the rear jacks 7 1/2" of bed clearance (i could and may drop the 5th wheel 1 bolt hole" after really towing a distance rather than a short drives for checking things out.
My new wheels/tires worked as expected with no issues so thought i would share. The Sumo springs were just an extra add on as i was under the trailer anyway and have heard great things they do for the ride. Thanks, 7ACmike

I was told by Alliance that the 29RL was designed to be 1/2 Ton towable. I disagree with a pin weight at around 1500 lbs. there are few 1/2 tons in the market with the payload capacity to tow the weight legally. But, I found that manufactures nor dealers care about towing legally? That is the owners responsibility!

My 2500HD Denali has a 2 inch factory lift. My truck bed is about 59” from the ground to the top of the bed. I also have a rolling bed cover that sits on top of the rail which adds another 3/4”. I have set my hitch in the top holes and have 6” of bed clearance. My 29RL with the 285/80R16 still is a bit nose high.

I would never purchase another 5th wheel camper that came with 15” tires. It makes no sense to me to the bare minimum in weight capacity under these tall heavy 5th wheel rigs. I put the 235/80R16 on because that is all the tire that Alliance said would fit. They are kind of correct? There were some close areas that I ground the sharp edges off of for extra clearance. If I went larger on the next set of tires I would look at Zumo Springs or installing shocks as suggested in posts on this thread.

The other piece on my set up is I installed a Pull Rite auto sliding hitch. It is a great hitch other than you must be almost perfectly square and level to back into it. It also has a capture plate that installed under the pin box to activate the auto sliding mechanism. That plate is 1/4 inch thick, which raises the front of the 5th wheel. Not a big difference, but every fraction at the pin box affects everything in the back.

If you are looking for any advice and you are towing with a tall truck, I would not buy the 29RL. You will have all the same problems with nose high that everyone else has. Money can fix some of the issues, but I didn’t buy this thing to work and rebuild it to be able to haul it. Step up to 32RLS or 33RKS if you have the truck to haul it. Pin weight on these are going to be in the 2200lb. range and are going to require a larger payload. I did not have the payload capacity to legally haul either so I purchased the 29RL. Great camper, but Alliance needs to make some serious changes in the running gear for me to ever buy another one. Like the old saying goes “A house is only as good as it foundation” the 29RL is a nice camper, but the running gear under it is sub standard.

Got my wheels from Amazon (tire guy said to buy there as considerably cheaper). Tires from local guy as i've known him for 35 years and completely trust him and his thoughts. When you order the wheels beware that they DO NOT come with center caps and nuts! Sold my almost new wheels and wheels on Facebook for $600 so got some offset of the cost. No, my trailer is still under 12' 6" (no AC on front though).Trailer looks correct and tows right! Good luck.

Yes, I measured at 13’1”. I have from AC unit and I once read somewhere that with front AC that the pop 29RL height was 13’? I am looking at installing Correct Trax.

Surprise, Surprise, I argued up and down right and left that 15” rubber on the 29RL made no sense🤯 Bill Martin and I had a personal conversation about the issue created by their last minute switch from advertised 16” to 15” rubber. I guess Alliance does listen to the end user.

It is the right tire for the unit, they did do “The Right Thing”.

Now if quality control could “Do The Right Thing” and start clamping down on poor work quality, Alliance could be a force to be reckoned with in the industry. I have had so many issues with my 2024 29RL that have been warranty issue. The dealer I purchased the unit from (General RV in Ocala, Florida) has botched every warranty repair they have performed. I have had the unit to them twice, first time was a Laundry List of items and they only actually fixed 3 of the 10 or so items.

The industry is pathetic after you make your initial purchase! Like the government has standards and consumer protections for auto industry, there needs to be consumer protections in the RV industry.

I agree.... i have mine at the dealer as the furnace stopped working... the propane line on the left side under the slide fell on the tire and rubbed a hole in it. The max air fan failed and the gfci circuit also failed. Im going to have to put 16 in wheels and tires to prevent suspension failure...there should be a recall on this trailer for the tires and wheels.... it places a hugh burden on the owners to upgrade those components to prevent failures...

Furnace not working happened to me this past week while camping and needing heat! I diagnosed the issue as far as I could and narrowed it down to electrical. I made a call to Alliance (Kevin) and found the thermostat to be failed. Common problem!!

i agree that there should be a class action lawsuit placed against Alliance RV on the 29RL specifically. My experience so far is Alliance has argued with me on everything, but persistence has prevailed and I have had about everything covered. My concern with this unit is once the Factory Warranty has expired. Alliance should extend the warranty on the 29RL due to all of the issues. Right now I am trying to get a light issue repaired in the rear awning. It did not work and I found that I had power at the bottom and no power at the top. Wires run in two channels on both sides of the awning channel. Not something I could do due to the rail needed to be removed on that side of the awning. Took it to dealer and they completely botched the wire replacement. The entire awing needs to be removed now, Frustrating🤯

As far as tires, work with Alliance (be Pleasant) they have agreed with the tire size change on 25 models that the 15” were a mistake! Go up the ladder and if you can get to Bill Martin, he will listen to you. I am sure you can come to an agreeable solution?

Do you know what the center boar measurement is on the 29rl rims. Are the 3 or 4 inch boar?

I do not know the center bore size. Measure your existing center hub caps outside diameter should get you close.

I just ordered a 29RL at the Indy RV show from Walnut Ridge RV.

As of now, the 29RL ships with 16” wheels and tires. Apparently, these guys listen to our concerns.

Yes...but they won't give a discount when you want to upgrade the wheels and tires on a 2024 year model...not happy with that...

Looking for any feedback from anyone who installed 235/85/R16 tires on a 2024 Avenue 29RL.

I have a 2024 Avenue 29rl and a stock 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 with 20 inch tires. When I bought the camper it was over 8 inches out of level. I raised the pin box one hole and it help a little but no where near enough and I can't go to the top holes because my tailgate and bedrail clearance will be to close. I have decided to buy new 16 rims and tires but I am trying to confirm if 235/85/R16 tires will fit okay.

I took measurement and right now I have 21 1/4 clearance from rear of frame to ground and 27 3/4 clearance from frame to ground in the front (6.5 inches difference) and camper to truck bedrails/tailgate was 6 5/8 front and 5 3/8 rear (1.25 inches difference)

I then drove the trailer tire up onto 2x8 boards to simulate 1.5 inch taller tires. New measurements were 24 rear to ground 27 7/8 front to ground (difference of ( 3 7/8) and the bedrail clearance was 6 9/16 front and 6 rear.

So raising read axles 1.5 inches improved the nose up attitude from 6.5 to 3 7/8 difference. So my hope is I can go with the taller 235/85/R16 tires and gain 1.715 in height to probably get me close to only being 3 inches out of level.

Good Year Endurance from their web site:
225/75/R15 = 28.31 diameter
235/80/R16 = 30.79 diameter gain of 1.25 in height
235/85/R16 = 31.73 diameter gain of 1.715 in height
255/85/R16 = 33.07 diameter gain of 2.385 in height (but I think the additional width would be an issue)

Any information / feedback is greatly appreciated, especially anyone who has installed the 235/85/R16 tires on a 2024 Avenue 29RL.

Out of curiosity, what does your leveling system tell you about degrees of tilt when you're hitched up and ready to roll?

I think mine is 1.9° but nothing I can do about that by changing hitch or pin height due to bedrail clearance. My truck tires are LT245/75R17E AT and trailer 235/80/R16. Top of tailgate is 59½". The trailer makes the truck squat about ¼".

Sorry it took so long to reply. Went and got camper from storage lot today and drove it to the most level spot I could find. My lippert display said +.5 degres when hooked up to my 2024 chevy 2500, then I drove trailer up onto 1.75 thick boards and display went to +.1 degrees. I think I am going to order new 16 inch rims and the 235/80/R16 Good Year Endurance tires. Leveling the camper a bit better with the 80s may improve the tailgate clearance enough for me to raise the pin box up to the top holes.

Thanks for that info. I should pull mine out to a level spot and see what the angle and measurement really is. The parking spot for the trailer has 4" of drop from front to back measured below the basement floor. This is when the trailer is disconnected and auto-leveled. Seems like that would still put my tilt at over 1°. How high off the ground is the top of your tailgate?

As I have stated in earlier posts, I installed 235/80/R16 tires at the advice if Alliance. I think 85’s will still be ok at only .44” increase in diameter? Others on this thread have installed 85’s and have had no issues that I known of?

I do believe you would have clearance issues with 255’s? I can say that the 235’s occasionally will show shinny ring on the outside indicating that they appear contacting the plastic fenders? Another poster mentioned that he installed sumo springs with 235/85/R16 tires. His report was that the sumo springs did not increase ride height, but improved the overall ride of the camper and tire clearance issues. I have been looking at installing shocks on our 29RL, I would like to know if anyone else has done this and what they experienced I increase ride and ride height.

I’m stumbling into the conversation, but I ran into an issue with my 2022 32RLS. My factory tires are 235/85r16. I had a flat last weekend, ended up being a valve stem issue, that drew my attention to grooves cut into the tire. Apparently coming in/out of my driveway forces the front-driver side tire into the wheel well enough to contact the slid mechanism. I replaced all of the tires with the same size because they are mid-21 dated and I don’t trust a tire with this damage, even if it’s not leaking now. Anyway, I had ground down the point that was contacting the tire but I am also considering adding sumo springs, if that works. Does anyone know the specific Sumo springs that are being used for this application?
