Had a tech look at it and determined that there is at least one bad motor/gear box on the rear of the slide (curb side sofa slide). Makes a loud banging noise when its operated. The other motor may be ok... Question - does the slide need to be removed to replace/repair it?
Also - is there a manual way to retract the slide? When we head home, it will need to be operated a couple more times...
Hi John,
1. The slide doesn’t need to be removed to replace the motor.
2. I would suggest both sides get replaced at the same time.
3. Make sure the new parts have the revised/strengthen design .
4. There are two way to manually retract, one via the controller buttons if motor still works some, two by inserting the manual drive tool in the top of the motor and use your power drill. Of course, both methods require the drive mechanism to be somewhat functional.
5. The internal and external L brackets control the cable alignment vertically and prevents it cutting into the jam brackets, so be sure those are reinspected during your repair.
5. Again, be sure to head out to the BAL site, the video series will walk you thru all of this step by step. It is what gave me the confidence to replace both of our slide motors myself.
