my tankless heater has a mind of its own!

i was throwing the cover over my 262rb for six weeks of down time and heard the heater start up on its own. no gas was on so it erred like it should. it has done it a number of times, recently. i've never noticed it before until we came back from our most recent trip. i know there's an on/off switch on the heater itself, but shouldn't the inside control panel power button do what it's supposed to do? thanks in advance for any ideas on the why and wherefor.

Any chance it is cold where you are and this is some sort of anti freezing strategy?
You might research your make and model on the net to see if you can locate an instruction manual, it might shed some light on your issue. Just a guess, we have a tank style in our 310RL.
