Hydraulic ram nuts?

Does anyone know if it's 'normal' for there to be a few inches of slack between the adjustment nuts on the threaded rod?
Both our slides are the same so I suspect that's the way it's supposed to be but I'm not sure the reason.

While on this subject, how often does one need to adjust the slide out? The last few stops we've noticed one end of our living room slide seems to be about 1/2 - 3/4" shy of where it needs to be. Causing a small ridge in the flooring. Should I just pull the hydraulics back in a bit, run the nut & jamb nut out, see how it looks?
