Just thought I would mention my experience. I had a gas leak that I tracked to my furnace. The problem was, that they only used a 1/4" screw to hold it in place. The furnace was banging around, until the gas connection eventually loosened. So if you ever pull the cover, inspect the screws holding the furnace down when you are there.
