Dirtbike carrier on rear hitch receiver - Delta 252RL

Hi All,

Not really sure if this is the correct category for this question, so if it isn't please let me know where to post it.
I just bought a 252RL with a rear 2" receiver. I want to put a dirtbike carrier on it, but was told that the max hitch weight is btw 200 and 300 pounds. I can't find where that it is listed in the specs, though.
My question is that has anyone used the receiver to carry something like a 300# dirtbike with carrier? If so, how did it work, or did you have to reinforce it? I want to make sure I am good before I try it and possibly lose my dirtbike while heading to the campground.

I think 300lb is the max your supposed to put on the neck of that hitch.
Reinforcement is a must If you go over 300lb. Also not sure if reinforcing that area affects your frame warranty?

I think there's a sticker on the hitch showing the capacity, 300lbs. Given the poor stock suspension on the Deltas, I wouldn't want anything over 150lbs bouncing on the back of the trailer.

I've never seen any mfr state it this way but if you hang 300# on the hitch 24" away from it then you're putting 600 lb/ft on the hitch. To take it to a ridiculous extreme you wouldn't expect it to support 300# on a ten foot long extension. I'm just saying take into account how far away from the hitch the load's center of gravity is.
I worry about my 200# toolbox back there to the point of at least considering adding a cable to it. At least then I'd drag it down the road with me. LOL

Your goal can be achieved, just not with the factory hitch. On our prior RV, I had a custom hitch built and welded to the frame. I also had them built it with 2 inserts, to avoid the rocking from side to side with a single insert. I put ~15k on the RV with this motorcycle (shown is WR250, but I later moved to WR450) and never had an issue. I did keep an eye on the frame for any cracking, but that never happened.

I left the middle insert there, in case I wanted to add a rack in future...but I never once used it.
