Broken Door Latch Cable Norcold N15DC

The door latch cable on my Norcold N15DC just snapped effectively locking the door in a closed position. Because I’ve jimmied the poorly functioning locking pins on the doors before, I knew how to free the latch pin. Then I took out the broken cable and removed the door handle.

I ordered a replacement cable Part 640973. I was wondering how to install the new cable since it’s inside the door between the front door panel and the inside insulated plastic panel.

Do I use a fish wire to install the new cable? Or does the door need to be disassembled? The Users Manual, Installation Manual and Parts Manual are silent on the procedure.

I contacted Thetford Norcold Customer Support but so far that’s been unproductive.

Anyone have experience with this replacement?

Hi Campers,

I’m “replying” to my own post, with good news.

Now that Thetford owns Norcold, recently I reached out to them and they provided documentation on how to install the door latch cable.

It’s the end of my camping season so that’s when I planned to replace the latch cable. Removal of the door is pretty much mandatory so having refig empty and shut down is a must.

Attached is the service bulletin that makes the magic possible for a DIY repair.

Happy Camping,

Bryan
