Bedroom Slide Moans No More

I was advised to hold the slide power button for 5 seconds on the Schwintek slide to avoid problems.
Not saying this would have saved your motor but just passing this tip along to others.
Schwintek slides do not have a good reputartion

I did see that posted by you and others here recently and have been doing it ever since. But this one is the Bal cable slide...accu slide i think is it's branding.

Got it closed now it will not open. The good news is we are not camping. Anyhow, it is still under warranty so I'll have it replaced. I posted the issue on the 340RL Facebook page and a few others have raised their hands with the same problem. I referred them over to this post so you might get a few questions. Funnily enough, I was at the rig documenting warranty issues (not ranting, just pointing out the irony).

Though I am going to have to get it repaired, I am likely going to replace the slide system with something like the Vroom.

Hi Mike, sorry this issue has caught up with you. It certainly appears to be wide spread.
In addition to the ribbed motor release, I just learned that BAL has revised the motors again by adding an extended shaft design and they released a jamb modification kit that includes a bushing and tooling to install it. The theory is to install the bushing in the jamb, the extended shaft will be supported by the bushing.
Hopefully this will put this issue to bed once modified.
Here is the link to the new repair video that demonstrates the process.
I would advise anyone getting replacements done to ensure their service provider is aware of and installing this revised kit.

So my last RV had BAL cable slides. While the requuired lots of help they were pretty easy to work on.
I replaced a few cables over the years. They maybe just as problematic as Swintech but they are also DIY'able.
I don't think they need to be flat out replaced in the way Schwintek does. I was able to keep my cable slides operating for years just replacing cables. That unit had 5 slides. So lots of cables over time. Don't get me wrong cable slides are far from foolproof but they are very repairable.
At least the version I had on my 2012 was DIY repairable

Seeing this video irks me only because as I posted cable slides require lots of fixes. Always hace. But at this point you'd think they had become more reliable, but that is not the case. More under engineering in the RV world. Shame on them.
Making a repair kit is standard procedure and it should not be that way.

Lantley, well if I am being honest it REALLY IRKS me as well ! Especially since I just replaced both of my motors late last year before the extended shaft/bushing kit was released.

I feel your pain. I'm getting angry about a unit that I no longer own. I don't currently have any cable slides and I'm still upset that the constant adjustments and fixes is still going on with no end in sight. :eek: THis thread is giving me PCSD- post cable slide disorder

I literally just picked up my rig after having the second motor replaced...I really hope they installed the new design!

This is super helpful. Alliance has already committed to replacing the motors and I'll work with their parts department to ensure this iteration is what is installed.

There is something interesting about change. People, companies, organizations, doesn't matter, rarely change until the historical behaviors become more burdensome than changing the behaviors would be. I learned about this when I was in my Masters program and found it to be really interesting. It repeats over and over again. Alcoholism, diet, laziness at work, or the products you deliver to a consumer...the point of change is almost never when the behavior is identified as potentially harmful but when the harm is going to be imminently realized by the entity. I found this to be super interesting.

Academics aside, I believe this is the reason the RV industry is the way it is. The parts suppliers keep on making inferior products. The manufacturers keep buying the inferior parts and using a manufacturing and warranty model that leans more toward profit than quality. The manufacturers don't use their leverage against the vendors, parts suppliers and RV dealers, to ensure standards and customer expectations are met. We consumers understand all this yet we help the industry achieve new records year after year. So, nobody will change until somebody in the cycle bows out because they cannot take it anymore.
