My 32RLS has a nifty looking bench that has a padded covering between the dresser and closet. It falls off all the time as just set there per mfr. I say nifty looking because that is all it is built for. After sinking in it many times with my 215# rear end and falling in while putting socks on, etc I decided to rebuild it.
I took it apart and found the base appears to be made of the wall paneling which measured 5mm. Hmmm, for covering a framed hole of about 13" x 21" I used a plywood calculator and discovered the max load for 5mm plywood is just under 54#; enough for a 5 year old, but not and adult man. Why? I do not know the reason for this choice by the mfr.
I used a nice 5/8" piece of plywood which gives me 170#. While I can agree those numbers are low, lets add 50#. 104# to 220# difference. Any how, it came out nice. I added a strip underneath to keep it locked in place so it will not bounce around. I only should have replaced the weak foam padding with something a bit firmer.
