I used to have a very elaborate spread sheet for everything I cooked. It allowed me to scale my recipes and custom edit how I cooked them. Since I found a program called "AnyList", I have no need for the spreadsheet. Here are a few great features and I am not a rep or get a commission. It just solves a lot of problems. The key to really using it initially, is to use their PC software. A larger screen is helpful. It is free unless you want to share it's features with friends and family.
1. You can use their browser extension to simply scrape most recipes off the internet, into Anylist. If you can't scrape it, you can always cut and paste it. It will bring in Preparation steps and ingredients. You can then edit steps and ingredients, if you change the recipe.
2. It allows you to scale the recipe up or down. I am finding this nice, since I am only cooking for 2 when at home.
3. You can simply put a meal on the meal calendar and check off the ingredients you need to buy. It moves it into a grocery list. You can add unlimited amount of stores.
4. Our camping group creates their list of where they will be camping, site number, and dates. We share our lists to each other, so coordination can be accomplished without a lot of phone calls or meetings.
5. I share my recipes with kids (Who live hours away) and they can now cook their favorites. Call it a way to capture grandma's cooking.
