Our Tow Vehicle

We have a 2020 Ram 3500 DRW. It is Walnut Brown Metallic, and is a Big Horn Trim. I was shopping for the "Max Tow" package and found this vehicle that had the drive train I wanted. Cummins 6.7L HO, Aisin 6 speed transmission, 4.10 gears and the Ram Air Ride Suspension. It came with the Ram 5th Wheel Prep Group, so it had the OEM Puck system installed at the factory.

I am currently on OEM Nexen tires, but changing out soon. My Ram has the steel OEM wheels, with the chrome "simulators" on them.

As for a hitch, I am using the B&W Companion 25k hitch, installed in the Ram Puck System. I am still on the OEM Lippert Rota-Flex pin box. I was originally sold the Andersen Ultimate Hitch by the dealer when I bought the Valor 40V13, but have recently sold it. I'm more happy with the B&W hitch, for our rig.

Our truck has 36k miles on it, and we have had it since new. It has the 8' bed, and I have zero clearance issues with the 40V13.

Hope to see you all out on the road someday!

Hi Darren and Lisa - welcome to the forum!

Thanks for sharing your tow vehicle details. I have a truck on order to pull my Paradigm 340RL. My choice may be viewed by some as overkill but I have my reasons (tight turning radius, always thinking to the future)…

2022 F450 Quad Cab Long Bed Diesel Dually
Trailersaver BD5 Hitch
AirLift Air Bags
MORryde Pinbox

Now, if I ever get that truck in! Been on order since early July 2021. I was told at that time, not to expect it before the end of February 2022. We shall see.

Happy camping y’all!

Hey Jim,

May I ask why you are putting air bags on the F450?

Hey Jim,

May I ask why you are putting air bags on the F450?

In my experience with all my past Ford’s, they squat pretty well under the load of a heavy pin 5th wheel. That said, at least initially, my pin shouldn’t be too bad. Not until I add some inverters and batteries and such.

Hello Darren, we Have 2019 Ram 3500 DRW 4.10 6.7 HO as well but no air bags, installing hitch as I speak for January delivery of our 42v13. What position are you happy with on set up? Looking for a baseline to start from with someone of equal towing. My wife showed me a post of yours on Facebook I believe switching from Anderson to B&H. I'm not on FB as of yet...thank you in advance.

Nice truck! We have a 2019 version of the same setup except the long bed coming. When I found one with the HO/Aisin with the 4.10 rear end combo I jumped on it quick! Right now it's a race between the rig being ready to pick up and the truck arriving!

Hey Jim, did you get your truck yet?

Yes I did. I flew to Oregon to get it on March 19th. This is not the truck I had on order. That truck has yet to be built. Don't want to get into all the details here on how I got the truck I got, but I had the help of a friend.

Nice looking truck. I'm looking right now for another truck with not much luck. Enjoy it.

We finally got our truck a few weeks ago too! Did our first maiden voyage last Saturday! Towed like a dream. Not the original 2019 we had transferred to TX. There were issues with that one. But we found the 2021 3500 SO Cummins. Only 6100 miles when we bought it.

Brand new to 5th wheels, so brace for some dumb questions! Bought a "used" '22 Alliance P'digm 340 RL, and THEN went looking for truck. (Yeah, I know.) Going to pick up a 2019 Chev Silverado 3500 DRW this weekend, has a gooseneck pocket (B&W) in bed, no pucks. Looking hard at the Companion BWRVK3500. Sounds like it does what we need, but putting it out there for suggestions, or "you crazy?". BH & I want to drag that Alliance home, but also want to make sure it gets here w as little drama as possible.

Sounds like you're looking at one of the right ones. A gooseneck adaptor hitch, like the Anderson Ultimate, Pull Rite Superlite, or even a full gooseneck, like the Gen-Y would also work. Just depends on what you're comfortable with, your need to remove for a clean bed, and what you want to spend.

Trying to look ahead to setting up hitch. So, does anybody know what the resting hitch height is for a 340 RL? (Thinking that hitch really will show up one of these days.) Ours is about 3 hrs away or I'd go pull a tape on it.
