Electric fireplace "heat" shuts off and can't be restarted for hours

We are on our first trip with our Avenue 30RLS. When using the fireplace with heat it runs for some time then shuts off automatically. We cannot start it again for a few hours. Should it be shutting down completely when it reaches the desired temperature? How can we still use the fireplace for viewing after it reaches the temperature setting?

The other issue we are having is with the remote control. The power button does not work. The only buttons that are working are the increase / decrease temperature after we have started the fireplace manually.

On most of these fireplaces, there's a thermostat setting. Once the heat around that thermostat reaches that setting, the heat portion shuts off and the light (fake flame) stays on. That is normal operation.

That said, maybe this isn't what is happening on your end?
